How BOTOX® Cosmetic Works

Before Treatment
Patients should consult with their doctor to find out if they are a candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic. Before receiving treatment, patients should tell their doctor about any muscle or nerve conditions and all other medical conditions. During an initial consultation, the doctor will ask the patient if they are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is not recommended for patients who:
- Are allergic to any of the ingredients in BOTOX® Cosmetic
- Have experienced an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as Myobloc® (rimabotulinumtoxinB), Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA), or Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA)
- Have a skin infection at the planned injection site
Potential Side Effects and Risks
After treatment, patients may experience:
- Loss of strength, or general muscle weakness
- Vision problems
- Dizziness
- Allergic reactions, such as itching rash, red itchy welts, wheezing, asthma symptoms, or dizziness
What to Expect During Treatment
