What to Expect During Treatment With JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™
Before making any injections, the physician will cleanse the treatment area and make a few marks using a pen. He or she will then inject JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ around the cheeks and gently massage the area to help the filler spread evenly and reduce the risk of swelling. The entire procedure may take up to one hour.
Patients may feel slight pressure and a tingling sensation as the product is injected, but shouldn’t experience serious pain. Patients are free to leave once the injections are completed.
Risks and Side Effects
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ is safe when injected by a trained physician. However, patients may experience the following common side effects:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Firmness
- Lumps/bumps
- Itching
- Skin discoloration
- Bruising
- Pain
These side effects are typically mild or moderate and resolve within two to four weeks.
Allergic reactions are rare but may require medical attention if patients experience difficulty breathing, a rash, or hives.
JUVÉDERM® products are not recommended for patients with known allergies to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine. Patients should speak to their provider about other options for cosmetic treatment.
In rare instances, patients can experience scarring, infections, and death to affected skin tissues.
After the Procedure
Patients will see results almost immediately after the procedure. Results are subtle and natural, with minimal swelling. To maintain desired results, patients should schedule follow-up treatments.
There is minimal downtime and patients can go back to work right after the procedure. However, they should avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure, and alcoholic beverages for 24 hours after treatment to minimize redness, swelling, or itching at the injection site.
